The tables of the money changers were in the temple in order to keep men out. Theirs were collection tables, ticket-gates that priced people out of the market. But those tables have been turned over and the table of the Lord has been established instead. His table can never be shaken or thrown down. It has been set up in this temple not to keep men out but bring them in. It is not a collection table but a distribution-table. It is no ticket-gate at the front entrance of a feast but a table spread at the center of a dining hall. And you cannot buy your way to it, “Every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1).

There is an old hymn that says of this feast, “Sinners, lame, and harlots also here; repentant publicans are drawing near.” And look around, the prophecy is fulfilled in your hearing. Jesus pulled the mighty from their seats and exalted those of low degree. If you would follow Him, you must ride the borrowed donkey as He did. The only way to meet Christ at His table is with empty pockets.
