One of the greatest lies that is told about the Most High is that He is a cruel master, demanding more from the world than He gives to it. This slander leaves many men shaking their fists at the One who gave them five fingers. In spite of the false witnesses, this charge is every exposed as fraudulent. It was under this false claim that Saul skirted the command of God to utterly destroy Amalek and all they had. When Saul insisted that he spared some of the animals so that he might offer them to God, the prophet Samuel replied, “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). This ancient line enshrines the generosity of God.

The Creator of Heaven and Earth is more concerned with doing something for the world than with what the world might render back to Him. He has sent out His emissaries to bless, to bring good tidings. He has sent out His kingdom of priests to rid the world of darkness, gloom, and miserable practices of all kinds. This is what obedience is for. You are the light of the world, and He would scatter the dark corners. He doesn’t need the light. In Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).
