Easter Sunday is now in sight. In front of that day of resurrection stands Calvary’s death-stake. Since you can now see Glory Mountain out on the horizon, it’s a good time to mark a key difference between death and resurrection. Namely, you will be able to see your death spot, but not your resurrection spot. You will rise, of course. But once you are dead, you can’t know for sure where your body will be moved. It has been said that man often builds the altar in one place, only for God to send the flame in another. And so it is with death and resurrection. Dying is your duty, your altar-building. The fire of resurrection is His work.
Scripture is replete with guarantees regarding your resurrection to glory if you die well: “Whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it” (Matthew 16:25). But there is no telling exactly where you might find it. “He that humbles himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:12). And while you can always see the spot where you need to humble yourself, there is no sense in trying to predetermine what mountain you will be standing on when He exalts you. Dead men rise wherever He pleases.
