King Solomon testified that “children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3). This does not simply mean that God opens and closes the womb. For Christians, it means that their children truly belong to our Heavenly Father. In Ezekiel, while rebuking Judah, God refers to their children as His own: “Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them [false gods] . . . thou hast slain my children” (Ezekiel 16:20-21). The Christian’s children receive baptism because they are God’s children. And baptism is a sign and seal of His covenant in which He says, “I am your God and you are my people.”
