The town name Bethlehem comes from two Hebrew words “beth” meaning house and “lehem” meaning bread. So Bethlehem is a house of bread. Christ is the true bread from heaven who came to the house of bread to give Himself as bread to the world. We heard last week that King Herod fed on His people while King Jesus fed His people. And so you have gathered at the talbe of your King to feed upon Him and live.
As you do so, remember that you who come to eat this bread are bread. From the greatest of you to the little children, you are all one bread. So give yourselves to others as Christ has given Himself for you. You will no doubt have several opportunities over the next week to be a king who feeds His people or a king who feeds on his people. And the only way to be the former, the king you all want to be, is to eat at this King’s table in faith. So come in faith and welcome to Jesus Christ.
