Pride and shame flee before this bread and wine. Shame, because it is a great honor to sit at this table. And pride, because it is terribly humbling to do so. Some of you dwell too much on your failures. And you likely dwell too much on the failures of other. Look away from yourself and others to the dining hall you are in. Look at this table and the Lord of this table. Many people will not eat this meal. God Himself called you. I am not telling you to puff out your chest. But I am telling you to receive the honor Christ betows on you hear. You it is embarrassing. But you have to receive this bread and wine before the eyes of a watching world and watching heaven.

And why does this bread and wine not puff you up? Because you know that you have no right to be here. The powerful Word of God did not only hit your ear drums. His Spirit hit your central nervous system. His Spirit hit the command and control center of your heart, else you never would have come. This table is for the righteous and you know you’re not clean enough to come. But you have been given the garment of another. So come in faith and welcome to Jesus Christ.
