It would be remarkable to track how many transactions have occurred among you over the past few weeks—how many gifts have been purchased, how many will soon be given and received. The secularist eye looks at this and says, “Didn’t we all merely swap resources? I gave ten office presents. I received ten office presents from co-workers in return.” But that is unbelieving math. That calculation works in a dead world, a world without seeds.
Scripture says, “God supplies seed to the sower; He gives bread for food” (2 Corinthians 9:10). This is worth remembering on the cusp of Christmas Day, for you have sown bountifully, and your seedbag could likely use replenishing. But the verse continues, “He multiplies your seed sown and increases the fruits of your righteousness.” Not only will God refill your seedbag; He will increase the seed you have scattered.
As you give and receive in the coming days, remember to do both in faith. That means give and receive knowing that you live in a bountiful world with a bountiful God who makes your gifts—however big or little—increase. And amid all this growth, the biggest increase He supplies to you is the increase of your righteousness.
