It is easy to grow numb, dense, slow to hear the voice of God. He is always speaking and He does so as the chief comedian. He tells jokes continually but we are too self-righteous to laugh. We are too self-reliant to listen like humble shepherds in night.
Consider again what your God has done. Consider it fresh as for the first time. Teenage girl. Comes into the pastor’s office with her worried parents and says, “I’m pregnant . . . But honestly, you have to believe me, I haven’t slept with any man.” “OK,” the pastor says, “OK.” “And,” the teen adds quietly, “My child is going to be the King of the world.”
This is the story God has written. It is the story you are living. It is one in which God gives hilarious trouble to pastors, parents, and teenage girls on purpose. It is one in which He pulls the mighty from their seats through scandalous miracles. It is one in which the author wrote Himself into the same paragraphs you inhabit to laugh there alongside you and make you laugh even harder.
