One of the mysteries of this table—one that you Christians become accustomed to, but one that shocks the senses of any honest onlooker—is that you have not gathered at this table to sulk over the wounds of your Master, but you have gathered to drink from them. In this way, Christ steels all of His followers. The iron in His blood makes its way into your own. Christendom will be victorious because there is no place for the victim mentality in her. Your Lord was wounded, and far from nursing His wound, He told Thomas to stick his hand in it (John 20:27).

Our race has seen many contract the melodramatic, woke mind virus. And it has known plenty of attempted strongman stoics. Both are simulation artists. The solution is not to take the middle ground but to take the wounds of Christ and toast them. His blood is its own watchword. You must not know the power of resurrection; but the power of His resurrection. You must not participate in sufferings, but in His sufferings. So lift up “the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD” (Psalm 116:12–13). Come in faith, and welcome to Jesus Christ.
