Chesterton once said that anyone looking for the first time at trees, might be forgiven for assuming that they were fans agitating the wind. This he called the great human dogma: that the trees move the wind. That might seem like a spectacular world to you. But the one you live in is much more so. You live in a world where the wind moves the trees. And where does the wind come from? Nobody knows. Where does it go? We all shrug our shoulders. All we know is that we don’t boss it around. And it hustles and bustles far better than we do.
The Spirit blows wherever He wills and it is your job to run with Him at your back. Having begun by the Spirit, you must be perfected by Him. Do not expect this to be an easy run. He will be at your back but He blew Paul into chains. He blew our Lord into the wilderness. You must remember that He is more ambitious than you. He is funner than you. And funnier than you. So renounce any reliance on the drab and rotting flesh. Ask the Spirit to blow and do your best to keep up.
